“THE CURIOUS PARADOX IS THAT WHEN I ACCEPT MYSELF JUST AS I AM, THEN I CAN CHANGE.” ― CARL R. ROGERS, ON BECOMING A PERSON: A THERAPIST'S VIEW OF PSYCHOTHERAPY
ALEXANDRA DUZ, MACP, RP
Hi, I’m Alex! (she/her) 😊
I am a practicing Registered Psychotherapist and Meditation Teacher. I provide a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment for people to share and explore their inner world. I understand that life can be surprising, complex, and sometimes incredibly scary and confusing. There are also pieces and places within us that may feel the same way. I believe therapy can be an incredibly useful process & relationship, that can help support individuals in their exploration and understanding of their lives, themselves, experiences, and suffering in a way that helps them live a more present, creative, and joyful life that is less burdened by the past.
I practice from a Psychodynamic approach which emphasizes the healing capacity of the therapeutic relationship. This means, that the relationship developed between the client and therapist is central to the client’s journey of self awareness and healing and is openly explored throughout the therapeutic process. Above all else, the therapeutic relationship is a critical component of healing. Therefore, I will always check in with you along the way regarding how you feel and think about our work together, our therapeutic relationship, your progress, and goals.
In my work with clients, I also offer alternative tools for expression and exploration outside of traditional “talk” therapy. Sometimes we simply do not have or know the words to capture what we are feeling and experiencing. Therefore, I incorporate tools and exercises from Art Therapy as well as Guided Meditation to help access and connect with your emotional and somatic experiences that are present but possibly outside of awareness (unconscious), or difficult to verbalize.
I can’t wait to meet you and support you along your journey of self-discovery and healing.
