Polyamory
Polyamory
While many folks are aware of the construct of monogamy, open relationships and polyamory may not have received as much attention.
When coming to therapy, whether as an individual or in a couple, it is possible to investigate the want/need/desire for a less traditional relationship.
People can come to therapy at any and all stages in the exploration of nontraditional relationships. Some will come to process and investigate the possibility of pursuing a non-monogamous relationship and look at how that impacts current relationships and identities. Others may come to look at creating boundaries and open dialogue for navigating relationships with others or exploring feelings of jealousy or inadequacies.
It is important to note that there is no “one type” of polyamorous relationship and that the therapeutic space is meant to honour the values and beliefs of the individuals entering the space to create relationships that add value to their lives.
