“I AM NOT AFRAID OF STORMS FOR I AM LEARNING HOW TO SAIL MY SHIP.” - AMY MARCH, FROM LITTLE WOMEN

KATIE ABRAMS, REGISTERED PSYCHOTHERAPIST (QUALIFYING)

Hi, I’m Katie!

Hello and welcome. Thank you for taking the time to explore my profile, and for being open to the therapeutic journey. I believe that everyone deserves to feel safe and supported. No one should have to go through their struggles alone, and I was inspired to do this work for just that reason. Together, I hope to build a healing space not just for you, but with you, through which we can grow and learn together.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and enjoy working with people all across the life-span. My approach is gentle and open, and client-centered, meaning that I will adapt to your needs, values and goals throughout our work together. As humans, there are no two people who are the same, and therefore, I like to draw from a variety of approaches and modalities to cater to what feels right for you. At all times, it is your voice that leads the therapy. I specialize in talk therapy that explores both present and past, drawing on a variety of modalities including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative, Play-based and Psychoanalytic approaches. When working with children and families, I explore the many interacting parts of the family system and recognize that every person and family is unique.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Knowledge Integration from the University of Waterloo, and a teaching degree from Queen's University in Kingston. My education and interests have led me to specializing in working with children and families, and I am very grateful to have supported children in both educational and recreational settings. I am fascinated by the powers of play, both for the young and old, and believe that there is great strength in letting ourselves be creative, get messy and be our silliest selves. I also have extensive experience working with youth and young adults, and am passionate about providing compassion and care for young people undergoing life transitions, navigating relationship challenges, and struggling with low self-esteem and anxiety. Following my teaching degree, I pursued a Masters of Psychotherapy at Laurier University. I have been honored to work with those experiencing difficulties with a variety of mental health challenges, including grief and bereavement, many types of anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, emotion regulation and attachment issues. I do not identify as religious but am passionate about spiritual wellness and its role in your healing. I welcome people of diverse backgrounds, including those of varied gender identities, sexual orientations, cultural backgrounds, and religious beliefs.

In my off-hours, I spend time with my cat, Ivy, and often escape into the world of creative writing. I’m a musical theater lover and baking enthusiast. I love nothing more than to curl up with a good book and a hot cup of tea.

I would be honored to be a part of your healing journey.
