Mindful Drinking

Last Sunday's workshop on Mindful drinking was a huge success! A big thank you to our amazing participants whose experiences and vulnerability made for such an open and authentic conversation about the challenges many of us face regarding alcohol use.
.
Mindful drinking is not necessarily a new concept, but is making headway in North American culture as an alternative perspective and practice for the way we consume alcohol. If you want to drink less, enjoy it more, and reduce the risks, I encourage you to explore how you can incorporate mindfulness strategies into your own relationship with alcohol!

Here are some quick tips & tricks:

  1. Ask yourself if this drink will bring you joy or not. If not, you might want to explore alternatives to drinking. Avoid drinking when stressed or as a method of coping with distressing emotions. Try finding ways of dealing with these emotions before engaging in drinking.

  2. While drinking, pay attention to all of the sensations involved in the experience. The glass, temperature, texture, scent, taste, as well as any physical sensations, emotions, or memories that pop up along the way.

  3. Be present! Enjoy and take in your surroundings, the conversations, all while taking mindful and satisfying sips. Try not to think about the next drink, rather, immerse yourself in the experience of enjoying your current one.

  4. Be mindful of your tolerance and know your limits! We cannot be mindful if we are intoxicated!
